Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has filed to trademark a black and white image of his face and hair, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is showing on its website Wednesday, confirming a report by ESPN. Kaepernick, who has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, is credited with starting the protest against racial injustice that had footballers kneeling during the national anthem. He was back in the news last month when Nike Inc. nke-6.81% made him the face of its latest "Just Do It" campaign, sparking protest from some quarters and praise from others. The trademark filing said the aim is to use the image in clothing, namely, shirts, pants, jackets, footwear, hats and caps and jerseys.
