In 1991, I finally quit his band and the whole organization. I was totally exhausted… I had left Prince’s band because I really felt his direction was wrong, I was uncomfortable, you know? I was changing and I knew something was missing, but I didn’t know what. I knew that my life had to change and I didn’t want to live that way anymore or be in that environment, where it was always so negative. It was just wrong."

Sheila E: Playing to the Heartbeat of God, 2002

She also had a problem with the songs that Prince was creating for her planned 4th album on Paisley Park Records, saying that the songs were lacking a melody.

I sorta think she is talking about 1989 - 1990 about the 4th album

I remember her saying something about the music had changed too much and there wasn't a lot of color and melody.

What's the matter with your life
Is poverty bringing U down?
Is the mailman jerking U 'round?
Did he put your million dollar check
In someone else's box?
Tell me, what's the matter with your world

yep and if you listen to a song like "Girl Power",you can see what she's talking about. The song is very mediocre and uninteresting.

--- this is most of what Sheila said in her book. She also mentioned all cursing going on around PP.

Had to be a very different scene vs how it was for her 1984-1987 Most of the old guard were gone by 1991 I believe.

"Loverboy" has a Janet Jackson/Jam and Lewis vibe to it
