Anyone else like Mayte’s vocals on “Pope”?

I’ve really been into this happy, upbeat song lately. I very much like the vocals on the chorus and kept meaning to look up who sang them. Did just now, and was very happy when I saw it was MAYTE!
Ive only heard one song she sang of her own and thought it wasn’t bad. I remember reading somewhere that some fans were ripping it or her album or something she sang on apart. I think she has a better voice than some give her credit for. That must have pleased Prince very much.
I will take a listen soon to her album.

I do like Mayte's vocals on Pope. I haven't listened to it in years but I was listening to it a lot when I first got Hits 2. I also like her vocals on "Race" and "One Of Us" I think her album Child of The Sun is pretty good too and I loved that Prince sang on a few songs.

All the more reason to listen. Thanks.

I wonder why she doesn’t talk more about her album or her singing with him.

When I met her on her book tour the girl in front of me had her sign her copy of ‘Child of the Sun’. She asked Mayte why she hadn’t sang more often with Prince. Mayte demurred and said he had always wanted her to, but that it was never her thing, she was more about the dancing.

That’s what I figured.

You're welcome. "However Much U Want" is a duet and he's on the vocals for "House of Brick" a remake of "Brick House, where he sings "she's mighty Mayte." A few of the songs that she solos on I think are quite nice as well and I love "In Your Gracious Name." It's definitely worth getting if you can find it for a decent price.

I also always wondered if the “Uh”-type sounds all throughout “Peach” are Mayte having been taped during an “intimate” moment with Prince. razz
Also the sexual noises at the beginning of “Shhh”.
Just like possibly the sounds before “God” began on PR could have been Vanity during the same and also Kim B on certain songs.
I think Prince liked capturing these things on tape.

I think it was revealed that the sounds in "Peach" are Kim but I have thought the noises at the beginning of Shhh might be Mayte and I think Nona was on it too. She was in the video for it on 'The Beautiful Experience' movie. Kim was on The Scandalous Sex Suite. Yes,he did like doing that but I've wondered if the women were always aware they were being recorded. I assume he had their consent to use the recordings. It was said that he put Vanity's moans and speaking voice on the Come album so she would make some money in royalties.

Thank you, that is great information. I had heard that about him wanting to give vanity some royalties. Interesting that it was Kim on “Peach” since I always felt the song was about Mayte. I guess she (Mayte) really did respect the music as music. But gee, the sounds throughout Peach really do sound like Mayte to me.

You're welcome! Yes,I thought it was interesting that he still used Kim's yelp in the live versions as late as 2011. I've always thought that "Peach" was about Mayte as well since she stars in the video for it. I thought the yelps sounded like her too and was surprised to learn that it was Kim.

You're welcome. Prince also sang vocals on "Listen To The Rhythm Of Ur Heart." He had background vocals on most of the songs.
