Why does Prince have 3 Chains of Gold???

What are the chains?

Why does he have them?

Who made them?

What does that song mean?

Metaphors? Symbolism? Figurative Language?

prince

EXPLANATIONS NEEDED.

Is it explained in the 3 Chains video/movie thing which was released? I don't remember watching it more than once and remember being quite disappointed that the 3 Chains Of Gold song wasn't even in it.

Same for me as it was listed on back cover but I think there's just a short instrumental section near the end

That's right, more stuff is coming back to me now. I now remember watching it twice in case I'd missed it the first time through. I nearly went to try and get a refund because it wasn't there and I thought I had a faulty copy. lol

Doesn't Mayte the Egyptian princess give them to him for safekeeping because she's basically a massive fam who turns to Prince the popstar when her dad is killed?

They probably originally came as part of his 'slave' era.

He had had the chains long before. And "3 Chains" was made before the slave era.

By the way, I wasn't joking in my answer.

I was not talking about the slave era you are thinking of. I was referring to the first part of his career that he had later considered to be a slave period for him.

No need to be sorry! The period of his realisation is often referred to as his slave era as well, hence the confusion smile

It kicks ass with a vengeance, in the vein of the songs where the ambiguity, according to your day's mood, lies in not knowing if he's singing to his lover, to Warner Bros, or to ungrateful fans, or to fans stuck in the past, or about Jesus, or about the state of african americans, pick one.

One of his best covers, same level as the "What'd I say" (the one with the guest tatooed guitarist) in terms of unabashed musicality.

Sadly, the only web source I had seem to have vaporized.
I'll check some external drives this WE, I'm pretty positive I saved the stuff somewhere.
Apparently it became a favorite reprise ca. the Las Vegas shows.
I don't know where the version I'm referring to comes from. Hard to pinpoint a period.
It has one of his greatest live vocal performances, methinks.
I love it when he goes full heavy gospel, the voice on the edge of breaking, but it never breaks and suddenly there's more. I feel like saying I hear either Michael B. or John Blackwell on the drums, this shit is too tight! But to tell the truth, I don't know.
I got the file when it appeared briefly in 2016.

Of course the guitar solo is stellar, it's the wrath of God, and yet the sound of the recording is not so great! It's one of these live takes you listen despite say, absence of trebles (well, it's not THAT bad).
Judging by the size of the public I think it's an aftershow: there's clearly a room reverb with isolated screams.

Musically it evokes me of Love Thy Will B Done live in Paris 1998, mixed with the social avenging spirit of Family Name, and the rage of Days Of Wild. Or Count The Days?
OK, I'm gonna stop inflating the stuff, or you'll be disappointed.
But it's great. It's Fleetwood, you can tell he gives it everything he's got that night. You can tell he loves the original. It has a stock sitar riff all over, reminiscent of Howermuch You Want.

Prince is rapping on the verses, vocally it could be the One Nite Alone Tour, or the TRC Tour (or whatever this period's tour was called): there's this confidence of the nineties, yet the voice is stronger and more in control. I wanna say it's before Musicology but with Prince, it's sometimes hard to tell.

So it could be circulating under the name "Shadows and Chain".

Maybe it's this one:
