Since the late 80's i had the same train of thought about music mags.

i had collected an enourmous amount of RS, Spin, Musician, Guitar, etc.

Just last week i put them all (except for Prince related smile ) in the dumpster.

Now the 'Sign O The Times' book is sitting there with nowhere to go and it breaks my heart

cuz i just wanted the music.

i'm sure 'The Beautiful Ones' is nice to glance at, though.

...

THANKS FOR THAT HANDWRITING BREAKDOWN, MARGOT biggrin

That's the very reason I'm hesitant to spend $180 on SOTT Deluxe. I don't much care for booklets and such. Just want the music. And I really have nowhere to put them.

I read this in a few hours on the bus, it's hardly a commitment.

ForceofNature

The book is padded with a ton of visuals due to the nature of the book so I found myself finishing the meat and bones of it before I knew I was close to the end.

The Prince pages I enjoyed. The rest of it written by what's his name was filler. I was left horny for those bombshells he said he was going to reveal.

Read it twice.

One fast time,

and a second time to even take notes.

-

I like the pictures a lot.

I often take a look again.

They look so unreal sometimes, but nevertheless great to get an idea of the guy's young life.

Something we've never seen that close before.

I thought the opposite. I found Dan's words on how the project came to be a lot more interesting than Prince going on about his childhood. I would have been more into reading Prince's words about when his career started.

Same here.

There's also an audio book done by Dan.

I recommend it.

Through lots of tears I finally finished it within a week. I really thoroughly enjoyed him speak about the differences between North and South Minneapolis. Also talking about how important certain pieces of music to him were like Rufus and Chaka. Also his relationship between him and his father was closer than many would assumed or have gave credit for. Coming from his own words he had a lot on his mind. Also really cool to see how dark Purple Rain was about to be.

Sad to see many of you didnt bother or even give any details into what you thought of the book.

Download all the shit hop that you can for your kids, neices, nephews, and their friends also. That will prevent them from going out and buying it and will prevent some shit hop sales. Every little bit helps - Andy

No judgement-just surprised so many fams did not read the book after purchasing??

Me too; he shows his great sense of humor in his writing. Really, really too bad and sad he didn't get to finish the book. The pictures are great too.

I read it. I got it as a present.

I thought it was an obvious cash in.

The only interesting part was the few pages of his memoir

It was padded out massively. They should have saved all the photos etc for a deluxe set book.

I think the publisher wanted the 2.5 million dollar advance returned. The family/Estate said no and this is the book they came up with...

When I bought it I read a few pages...and put it away.

The Princespeak and such proved hard to get through.

I'm glad I have it though.

Anyone else?

I haven't finished the book and I've had for nearly a year. I just hadn't got back to reading it but would like to. One thing I have skipped is the part with his hand writing. I can't make out what he's writing. I thought my handwriting was bad. I was happy to get my copy at Half Price Books brand new and paid the price I wanted to pay.

The handwritten pages are typed as well...They are in the book.

Yes - I couldn’t get into it like I have other P books, but a reminder to pick it up and try again, especially since it’s winter in Minneapolis now!
